For this Project I decided to embrace the role of the architect in the informal settlement and propose an intervention at the civic scale. My proposal not only builds a space for the community, but is also a space that can be built by the community itself. Using simple locally harvested materials we were able to design a modular structure that creates an eye catching civic space while getting the community involved and not requiring outside intervention of skilled labor. The design aims to help fill the void of spaces allocated to the citizens of La Playa while brining them together in a space the community can be proud of. The site contains a variety of spaces ranging from classrooms to a community kitchen to a large flex space that can hold over 300 people which can hold a large variety of events such as communal meetings or La Carnival preparations.
